The Delta State University (DELSU) Comrade Community has announced plans to decorate the
Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, as its Grand Patron during its
forthcoming event, A Journey to Odyssey: The Hallmark of a Comrade.
According to the organisers, the honour is in recognition of Professor Asagba’s contributions to
the development of the university and his commitment to policies that promote students’
welfare and academic excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Professor Asagba, a renowned biochemist, toxicologist, researcher and academic administrator,
became the eighth Vice Chancellor of Delta State University in December 2024. Before his
appointment, he served the institution in several capacities, including Head of Department,
Dean, Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor, following his employment by the university in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Since assuming office, the Vice Chancellor has introduced reforms aimed at improving academic

His administration has prioritised the
digitalisation of academic and administrative processes, a move that has streamlined service
delivery and reduced unnecessary physical interactions between students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The administration has also focused on expanding academic programmes, encouraging research
and innovation, improving infrastructure and creating better welfare and career development
opportunities for staff. Student-centred policies introduced under his leadership have also been
credited with fostering a more stable learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the university, Professor Asagba has continued to promote collaborations with higher
institutions and research organisations across Africa, Europe, North America and Asia, in line
with his vision of increasing DELSU’s international presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Widely respected for his scholarly contributions to environmental biochemistry and toxicology,
Professor Asagba is expected to receive the Grand Patron honour during the event, which will
bring together student leaders, comrades and members of the university community to
celebrate leadership, service and activism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The organisers described the award as a recognition of the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to
building a more innovative, transparent and student-friendly university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
