{"id":112,"date":"2026-06-27T11:59:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T10:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=112"},"modified":"2026-07-06T14:29:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T13:29:24","slug":"training-supervisor-explains-why-delsu-introduced-early-practical-for-applied-arts-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=112","title":{"rendered":"Training Supervisor Explains Why DELSU Introduced Early Practical For Applied Arts Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BY FAITH BIOKORO<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The supervisor of Industrial Training (IT) students at the Sculpture Gallery of Delta State University, Abraka, Mr Amaebi Deme, has explained why that Fine and Applied students of the university are introduced to practical sessions at the early stage of their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive interview <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><em>Media Conversation<\/em><\/mark><\/strong>, Deme noted that the students begin practical sculpture molding from 100 Level to enable to quickly develop their artistic and creative skills through hands-on experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further revealed that several statues located around the Site 2 campus were produced by Fine and Applied Arts students as part of their academic projects and group assignments. According to him, these works demonstrate the creativity and practical knowledge acquired by students during their training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that sculpture has remained an important aspect of the Fine and Applied Arts programme since the department was established, providing students with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in real-life artistic projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The supervisor also described sculpture production as a demanding aspect of Fine and Applied Arts training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the process requires significant effort, resources, and the use of industrial equipment provided by the university, adding that students must undergo practical training and make effective use of available facilities to successfully complete their projects and assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the challenges involved, Deme explains that the training equips students with valuable technical and creative skills needed for professional practice in the field of sculpture and visual arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Our Reporter visited the Sculpture Gallery, several Industrial Training (IT) students were observed engaging in various sculptural activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students were seen working with materials and equipment in the gallery, demonstrating the practical nature of the training offered by the Department of Fine and Applied Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sculpture Gallery at Site 2, Delta State University (DELSU), was observed to be a busy practical workshop where students engage in hands-on training using materials such as clay and cement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iron rods and other supporting tools were also seen being used in the construction of sculptural frameworks, while various works at different stages of completion were displayed within the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The environment reflected an active learning atmosphere, with students moving around and working on assigned projects under supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><strong><em>Media Conversation<\/em><\/strong><\/mark> reports that the Sculpture Gallery remains an important centre for artistic development, contributing to the growth of young artists within the university community. &nbsp;These works not only showcase students\u2019 talents but also enhance the visual outlook of the campus, making it more attractive to students, staff, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In another development, <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=107\">incumbent President Bola Tinubu\u2019s 10.99 million votes in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary on May 20, 2026, have sparked sharp criticism and widespread disbelief.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Critics argue that the results sharply contrast with Nigeria\u2019s historic voter apathy during the 2023 general elections, which saw a record-low turnout of just 27%, making it the lowest since 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY FAITH BIOKORO The supervisor of Industrial Training (IT) students at the Sculpture Gallery of Delta State University, Abraka, Mr Amaebi Deme, has explained why that Fine and Applied students of the university are introduced to practical sessions at the early stage of their studies.
