Hundreds of residents of Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State benefited from a free medical outreach held on March 27, 2026, at Ejeta Primary Health Care Centre, where healthcare professionals provided free medical consultations, health screenings, treatment and essential drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach, organised as part of Senator Ede Dafinone’s healthcare intervention across Delta Central Senatorial District, attracted a large turnout of residents, especially elderly persons, women, children and low-income earners. Medical personnel conducted blood pressure and blood sugar tests, malaria screening, eye examinations and health education while also distributing prescribed medications free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atmosphere at the health centre reflected both hope and appreciation as beneficiaries patiently waited for their turn to receive treatment. Many residents described the programme as timely, noting that the increasing cost of healthcare has made it difficult for many families to seek proper medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To understand how the outreach affected beneficiaries, I approached Mrs. Helen Oghenekevwe, who had just completed her medical consultation and received her medications. She expressed gratitude for the programme and explained how difficult it had become to afford healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The cost of medical treatment is beyond what many of us can afford today. When I heard about this outreach, I decided to come because I had been postponing treatment due to lack of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today, I was examined, received my drugs and was advised on how to take care of my health without paying anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This programme has really brought relief to many families,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also spoke with Mr. Sunday Akpobome, who had just undergone a blood pressure check. According to him, many residents ignore their health because hospital bills have become too expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Many people avoid going to hospitals because they simply cannot afford the bills. Today’s outreach has given many of us the opportunity to know our health status and receive treatment free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I sincerely hope programmes like this will continue, while the government also improves our health centres so that quality healthcare will always be available,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach attended to patients suffering from malaria, hypertension, diabetes and other common illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthcare workers also educated beneficiaries on preventive healthcare and encouraged regular medical check-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before leaving the venue, I spoke with one of the health workers, who requested not to be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The health worker explained that many of the patients attended to had delayed seeking treatment because of financial challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents commended the organisers for bringing healthcare closer to the people but appealed to the Delta State Government and relevant stakeholders to invest more in healthcare infrastructure across Abraka and other communities in Ethiope East Local Government Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many beneficiaries left the venue expressing satisfaction with the services received and called for regular medical outreach programmes to complement government efforts in improving healthcare delivery across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Several of the illnesses we treated today could have been managed earlier if people had regular access to healthcare services.
