Students and residents of Abraka, Delta State, have raised serious concerns about the increasing incidents of kidnapping and insecurity within the university community, urging security agencies and government authorities to take immediate and decisive action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concerns come amid a series of reported kidnapping incidents that have created fear among residents and students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent protests by youths and community members highlighted the growing frustration over the security situation in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports indicate that residents and students have staged demonstrations demanding stronger security measures and an end to increasing kidnappings incidents in the university town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in an interview with Our Reporter, Divine Onoriode Oghenesuwe, a Biological Education student residing in NUT Hostel, said the situation has affected the daily lives of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany students no longer feel comfortable moving around at night because of the fear of kidnapping and robbery\u201d, he lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople are becoming more cautious about where they go and when they return to their hostels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, although he has not personally fallen victim to any criminal attack, reports of kidnappings within the community have created anxiety among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe atmosphere has changed. Parents are worried about their children, and students constantly discuss security issues. Everyone wants to be safe,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oghenesuwe noted that students appreciate the efforts being made by security agencies but believe more can still be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also urged students to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere should be increased patrols around student hostels and major roads. Security presence should be more visible, especially during the evening and night hours,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cStudents should avoid walking alone at night, stay alert, and immediately report anything unusual to security personnel,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Conversation<\/mark><\/em><\/strong> reports that residents of Abraka have repeatedly protested against the worsening insecurity, alleging that kidnapping has become a major threat to life and property in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a large scale protest in 2025, protesters called on the Delta State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents and restore confidence in the town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectedly, the recent security concerns have drawn attention from student leaders and community stakeholders, who warn that continued insecurity could negatively affect academic activities and the reputation of the university town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student representatives have also raised concerns that fear of abduction may discourage prospective students from choosing the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As residents continue to call for lasting solutions, many hope that collaboration among government officials, security agencies, community leaders, and students will help restore peace and ensure that Abraka remains a safe environment for learning and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Her Own Space (HOS), a women-focused fitness initiative, has officially launched regular sports and wellness programs designed to encourage physical fitness and active living among women in Abraka.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with Media Conversation<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>, Ms. Christabel Agevafo, the founder of the initiative, explained that HOS was established to create a safe space where women can participate in sports, develop fitness routines, and enhance their overall well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
