About 160 residents of Abraka and its environs benefited from a free medical outreach organised by Living Faith Church, Ekrejeta, Abraka, on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme, which attracted children, youths, adults and elderly residents, featured health education, medical consultations, screening and distribution of drugs to participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event commenced at about 10:00 a.m. with a worship session and a brief sermon before medical personnel from the General Hospital, Abraka, took over the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The health workers educated participants on common health challenges affecting members of the community. A senior matron from the hospital delivered a session on menopause, explaining the symptoms, changes associated with the stage of life and ways women could manage related discomforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Urhobo interpreter assisted during the session to ensure that older participants who preferred the local language understood the information provided. Several women also asked questions during the health talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A medical doctor, Tega Anunu, who spoke on breast and prostate cancer, advised residents not to ignore early warning signs and encouraged regular medical screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, early detection plays an important role in effective treatment. He also addressed misconceptions about cancer, which he noted were still common among people in some communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the health education session, the medical team commenced consultations around 1:00 p.m., attending to residents and providing drugs for those who required treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the outreach, the Women\u2019s Leader of the church, Deaconess Mrs Florence Osirim, said the programme was organised as part of efforts to support the physical and spiritual well-being of residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe believe faith and medical care work together. One does not cancel the other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osirim added that the outreach was open to different categories of people, including students, traders and families who may face challenges accessing healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some beneficiaries who spoke during the programme expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to receive medical attention without financial cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Resident Pastor of the church, Pastor Yinka Emiloju, said many people often miss healthcare opportunities because they are unaware of available programmes within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He encouraged residents to take advantage of health initiatives organised around them, adding that the church would continue to support similar programmes in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach also featured the provision of meals for participants, many of whom remained at the venue while receiving medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organisers said the initiative was aimed at improving access to basic healthcare services and promoting health awareness among residents of Abraka and neighbouring communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a different development, students and residents of Abraka, Delta State, have raised serious concerns about the increasing incidents of kidnapping and insecurity within the university community, urging security agencies and government authorities to take immediate and decisive action.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concerns come amid a series of reported kidnapping incidents that have created fear among residents and students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
