What started as an attempt to achieve the popular \u201cBBL body\u201d trending on social media has ended in lasting health consequences for a 22-year-old student in Abraka, sparking fresh debate about beauty standards and unregulated enhancement products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The student, who asked that her name be withheld for privacy, said she bought pills advertised as \u201cBBL enlargement pills\u201d from an online vendor after seeing endorsements by influencers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI kept seeing influencers promoting them,\u201d she said in an interview. \u201cThey promised bigger hips, fuller curves and a tiny waist without surgery. I thought it was an easier and cheaper option.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, she used the pills for several weeks before developing severe abdominal pain, prolonged bleeding, and other complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI ignored the warning signs because I believed the pills were working,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen the pain became unbearable, I was rushed to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said doctors later told her she needed emergency surgery due to complications affecting her reproductive organs.
\u201cI never imagined something meant to make me beautiful would leave me with scars that may never heal. If I could go back, I would never take those pills,\u201d she said tearfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health professionals note that the exact cause of such complications can only be confirmed through proper medical evaluation, and should not be automatically attributed to a single product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident has spread widely among students of Delta State University and residents of Abraka, reigniting concerns about the growing market for unregulated beauty products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precious Efe, a 300-level student, said health must come before appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese days, everybody wants to look like influencers online. Some girls are willing to take any product just to have curves. We need to understand that our health comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Jennifer Oghenekaro, said peer pressure is a major factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen someone posts amazing results online, people do not ask questions. They just order the product. Nobody thinks about the side effects until something bad happens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith Okoro added that social media creates unrealistic expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSocial media has made many girls feel their natural bodies are not good enough. We need to appreciate ourselves more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local fashion content creator Princess Daniel, who promotes clothing and styling in Abraka, said fashion should not push people toward risky choices.
\u201cFashion is supposed to help people express themselves, not pressure them into dangerous decisions. Confidence comes from accepting yourself and making healthy choices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She urged brands and influencers to stop promoting products whose safety has not been verified by relevant authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
