DELSU has introduced an improved electronic result processing system, a unified portal for admission and medical screening, and upgraded ICT infrastructure across campuses.

Officials say the innovations have made administrative processes faster, more transparent, and more efficient.

On infrastructure, the administration has prioritized improved electricity and water supply, upgraded campus facilities, and supported the completion of key projects such as the Senate Building with assistance from the Delta State Government.

Plans have also been announced for an ultra-modern sports complex to boost sporting activities and student participation in national competitions.

Student welfare initiatives have included sustained entrepreneurship programmes, work-study opportunities, and strengthened counselling services. School fees have remained relatively stable, while medical services and complaint resolution mechanisms have been expanded.

The Student Union Government was also presented with a Toyota Sienna bus to enhance service delivery to students.

For staff, the administration has promoted deserving personnel, supported postgraduate education, provided opportunities for professional and international training, and introduced free annual medical screening. Officials say the measures have improved motivation and productivity.

DELSU has expanded international collaborations with universities and institutions in South Africa, Canada, China, and the United States.

The partnerships cover staff and student exchanges, research collaboration, virtual international lectures, and access to global academic opportunities.

In governance, the administration created additional units including an Estate Directorate, expanded Registry operations, and appointed a third Deputy Vice-Chancellor to improve efficiency.

The Vice-Chancellor has also emphasized prudent financial management and increased internally generated revenue to support development.

Prof. Asagba said his vision is to build DELSU into a centre of academic excellence with modern infrastructure, high ethical standards, advanced research, effective ICT systems, and graduates equipped with employable skills.

He added that the administration remains committed to eliminating cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, and other social vices while promoting peace, discipline, and security across campuses.

With the ongoing reforms, DELSU is positioning itself for greater national and international recognition in teaching, research, and community service.

By Solomon Teryila Since assuming office, the Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Prof. Samuel Asagba, has introduced wide-ranging reforms in academics, infrastructure, digital systems, and staff and student welfare that have strengthened the institution’s national reputation.
