Students of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka have appealed to the university management to expand study facilities on campus, citing increasing pressure on existing spaces due to the growing student population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit to the university\u2019s main library, faculty reading rooms, and other learning areas showed that most facilities are often filled to capacity, especially during lecture hours and ahead of examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many students were seen sitting on the floor, sharing tables, or standing because of limited chairs and reading desks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students said the current infrastructure can no longer meet the demand, with more candidates gaining admission each session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They noted that the shortage of study spaces has made it difficult for them to read in a conducive environment, particularly at night and during test periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chiamaka Nwosu, a 300-level student, said she often leaves the library early because there are no seats available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSometimes you get to the library by 7am and everywhere is already full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During exams it is worse. We need more reading rooms and extended library hours so we can actually study,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Emeka Obi, said poor ventilation and inadequate power supply in some reading areas also make learning difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe few spaces we have are overcrowded and hot. If management can build more study halls and equip them with fans, lights and sockets, it will help us a lot,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lecturers who spoke on the issue acknowledged the challenge, noting that a conducive learning environment is important for academic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They said expanding facilities would not only ease congestion but also encourage independent study and research among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Education experts have also stressed the need for universities to match infrastructure development with student enrolment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They said that as universities admit more students, there must be corresponding investment in classrooms, libraries, hostels, and other learning facilities to maintain academic standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students are now calling on the DELSU management and relevant government agencies to prioritize the expansion and renovation of study spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their requests include the construction of additional libraries, 24-hour reading halls, and the provision of more seats, internet access, and stable power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University authorities have not yet responded to the appeal, but students said they remain hopeful that action will be taken soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many on campus, the message is clear: more students means more facilities are needed to support learning and ensure that academic activities are not hampered by overcrowding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
