Uyanwanne Leonard, and his deputy, Comr. Okoro Oghenenyerhovwo.

In campus politics, student union executives are frequently evaluated by their tangible impact on the academic standing and general welfare of their constituents. This initiative serves as a major policy execution by the current SUG executive team, aimed specifically at supporting junior colleagues who are struggling under the heavy weight of university grading scales, probation threats, or declining grade points.

According to the organisers, the programme was strategically structured to target 100-level and 200-level students because these preliminary years are widely recognized on campus as critical adjustment periods where many newly admitted students find it difficult to adapt to the rigorous university academic environment, occasionally leading to a loss of focus or early withdrawal from studies.

To provide practical solutions, the SUG leadership invited high-achieving student speakers who have successfully navigated severe academic hurdles.

READ ALSO

Students Express Worries Over Worsening Insecurity Ahead Of 2027 Polls

Students demand Immediate Action As Kidnapping Spree Returns In Abraka

Group Launches Sports, Fitness Activities For Abraka Women

Training Supervisor Explains Why DELSU Introduced Early Practical For Applied Arts Students

A 400-level first-class student from the Faculty of Pharmacy opened the seminar by sharing her personal academic journey. She openly narrated how she initially faced severe frustrations and low grades during her early years with university coursework. However, she managed to completely reverse the trend by identifying structural weaknesses in her study patterns, seeking academic mentorship, and intentionally doubling her study hours.

The centerpiece of the seminar featured a detailed, step-by-step lecture by Gideon, a recent first class graduate from the Faculty of Education, who was celebrated as one of the top graduating students in his academic set.

Gideon provided a practical roadmap on the core mechanics of grade recovery, emphasizing strict time management, the elimination of campus distractions, and customized study methods tailored to individual learning styles.

“He taught us a lot about when to read and how to go about it,” stated Efe Ovie, the Film and Multimedia 100-level Coordinator, who attended the event at the Secretariat.

“He explained that if you consistently train your body to wake up and read at a specific time, like 4:00 AM, your body clock automatically becomes alert to study at that exact hour. Consistency builds retention.”

Gideon also addressed a common student dilemma regarding peer tutoring, introducing what he called a “two-way equation” for personal academic growth. He argued that while breaking down complex concepts for fellow students helps sharpen a tutor’s intellect, it must remain balanced.

He warned that if a student stops personal reading and only focuses on teaching others, they will eventually deplete their own intellectual reserves without collecting new knowledge, leading to a drop in their own performance.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session where students raised concerns regarding exam anxiety, difficult courses, and balance.

Reacting to the launch, a student identified as Mr. Christopher expressed great relief but noted he wished such a program existed when he was a freshman. “Many of us struggled because we lacked guidance on how to study effectively in a university system,” Christopher stated. “We entered with a secondary school mentality, and it badly affected our initial performance.”

Similarly, Akilo Isioma of the Department of Advertising praised the student union for shifting its energy toward intellect over standard entertainment. “The SUG is trying by creating platforms that focus on academics rather than just social activities. Students need this kind of support to balance school and campus life. If not, many will graduate with regrets,” Isioma said.

Gido Academy, a first-class student from the Faculty of Education, described the training as a “technical strategy” that goes far beyond basic motivational speeches to target the root causes of academic failure.

“It will not just tell you what to read, but teach you how to read,” Academy explained. “Parties upon parties in school are likely to make CGPA drop. This program addresses that directly. It’s about technique, not just hard work.” He further warned that students often underestimate how quickly poor grades pile up, making them incredibly difficult to recover from by 300 and 400 level.

The success of the CGPA Recovery Initiative marks a significant political and academic milestone for the Sen. Leonard-led academic directorate.

With the semester examinations fast approaching, this timely intervention reinforces the administrative role of the student union as a vital pillar for student welfare and academic stability on the Abraka campus.

In a related development, approximately 160 residents of Abraka and its environs benefited from a free medical outreach organised by Living Faith Church, Ekrejeta, Abraka, on Saturday.

The programme, which attracted children, youths, adults and elderly residents, featured health education, medical consultations, screening and distribution of drugs to participants.

By Melody Ekpebimoh and Blessed James In a decisive political move to address academic challenges and fulfill core welfare promises, the Directorate of Academics of the Student Union Government (SUG) at Delta State University, Abraka has successfully hosted its highly anticipated “CGPA Recovery Initiative.” The academic intervention seminar, which drew an impressive turnout of student […]

[16,35,14
31,25,36
post-128","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-abrakametro","category-education","category-trendingnews","tag-abraka","tag-delsu","tag-delsu-sug
["GET
