Many students said they spend long periods waiting for shuttle buses, while others resort to trekking long distances under the sun and rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A visit to different parts of the campus showed large crowds at major bus stops, with students competing for limited spaces in the few available shuttle buses. The situation is often worse in the mornings and evenings when lectures begin and end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sarah Okoro, a 200-level student, said the shortage of buses makes students late for classes. \u201cSometimes we wait for more than 30 minutes and the bus will still be full. We end up trekking from one faculty to another, and it is stressful,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another student, Tunde Adebayo, said the problem affects students living in off-campus hostels the most. \u201cAfter lectures, getting a bus to the gate is a struggle. By the time you get out, it is already late. We are pleading with management to increase the number of buses and make the schedule more regular,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators within the campus said they have stepped in to help, but their fares have increased due to high fuel costs. Students complained that the alternative is expensive and not affordable for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transport experts noted that a functional campus shuttle system is important for safety, punctuality, and the overall wellbeing of students. They said that with DELSU\u2019s large landmass and increasing enrolment, there is need for more buses, designated bus stops, and a structured timetable to reduce congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students are urging the university management to partner with transport unions and private investors to provide more vehicles, repair bad roads within the campus, and ensure that buses run early in the morning and late in the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While acknowledging the financial challenges facing institutions, students said that investing in campus transportation will reduce stress, improve attendance, and make movement safer for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As academic activities continue, many DELSU students hope the management will treat the issue as a priority so that learning will not be hampered by transportation difficulties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Destiny Akhilome Students of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka have called on the university management to improve the campus transportation system, saying the current arrangement is inadequate for the growing student population.
