{"id":1285,"date":"2026-07-14T00:09:36","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T23:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1285"},"modified":"2026-07-14T00:09:37","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T23:09:37","slug":"entrepreneurship-and-financial-choices-reflect-changing-economic-reality-in-abraka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1285","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneurship And Financial Choices Reflect Changing Economic Reality In Abraka"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By<\/strong> <strong>Favour<\/strong> <strong>Ojotomobor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As economic pressures continue to affect Nigerians, residents of Abraka are adopting different strategies to cope, with many turning to entrepreneurship while others raise concerns over rising involvement in sports betting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interviews conducted in the community show that young people are starting businesses to gain financial independence, while established business owners are adjusting operations to remain competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, some residents worry that the growing attraction to gambling could discourage productive economic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joan, a 23-year-old Delta State University student who sells perfumes at Estella Hostel, said she started her business out of passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve always loved business. I didn\u2019t start because I was poor or because someone asked me to. It is something I genuinely enjoy, and it has helped me become more independent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added that balancing business with studies has taught her discipline and financial management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs. Stella Kalejaiye, a business owner with more than 20 years\u2019 experience, identified staff recruitment and customer retention as major challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said strategies such as improved welfare, structured work policies, consistent marketing, and good customer service have helped her business survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is nothing like overcoming business challenges one hundred percent. The important thing is learning how to manage them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Godspower, a resident living behind Campus Three, expressed concern over the increasing number of youths involved in sports betting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said many now depend on luck instead of productive work and advised Nigerians to focus on hard work and investments rather than gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Observers note that while entrepreneurship is growing among young people, sustained economic stability will require responsible financial decisions and policies that support small businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Favour Ojotomobor As economic pressures continue to affect Nigerians, residents of Abraka are adopting different strategies to cope, with many turning to entrepreneurship while others raise concerns over rising involvement in sports betting.
