<strong>Margaret<\/strong> <strong>Kennedy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An expected drama disrupted the Mr and Miss Campus 2 contest at Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, after a female judge (name withheld) threw a slipper at a cameraman for allegedly covering her view at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The action, which many considered unbecoming of a beauty queen, immediately sparked protests from students and caused a temporary halt to the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident occurred while contestants were performing in traditional attire representing different cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Media Conversation contacted the Beauty Queen, she claimed the times to leave the way so I can see the upcoming contestants but he didn\u2019t hear me, so that was why I threw the slippers at him to get his attention,\u201d the judge said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the cameraman, who was wearing earpods while recording, claimed he did not hear her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was on earpod while recording the event so I didn\u2019t hear when she called me to adjust,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The action drew an immediate reaction from the crowd, with students shouting that it was \u201cuncalled for, mischievous, and very disrespectful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disagreement nearly led to a commotion and an abrupt end to the Grand Finale Holds Saturday<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judge was asked to apologise but initially refused, insisting she did nothing wrong because her view was blocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To prevent escalation, the Master of Ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Campus Empire, and other judges intervened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students and friends of the cameraman also protested in defense of the young man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A male judge later addressed the crowd on her behalf, but students demanded that she apologised herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She eventually came on stage and said, \u201cI am sorry for throwing slippers at the cameraman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd then calmed down and the event continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on the issue, Stephen Jumour, a Campus 2 ambassador for 2022\/2023, said the judge should have simply asked the cameraman to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat was very disrespectful because he is actually described the Judge\u2019s action as \u201cvery immature and unprofessional.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy would she throw a slipper at a guy who was only doing his job?\u201d, she queried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA simple \u2018excuse me\u2019 or asking someone to call his attention would have been enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another executive at the university who witnessed the incident said the action showed a lack of respect for human dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI feel very annoyed at what she did, and if I were to be in that young man\u2019s shoes, I won\u2019t tolerate such nonsense because it will be a very big insult to my dignity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the disruption, organisers restored order and the competition continued to a peaceful
