The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued a three-year-old child who was abducted by a commercial motorcyclist, sparking relief and commendation from residents across the Abraka axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rescue, which took place following an intelligence-led operation, serves as a significant milestone in the state\u2019s ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes. The suspect, identified as Kelvin Ogaga, allegedly exploited his trusted position as a daily school transporter to facilitate the abduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on May 18, 2026. The victim\u2019s father reported the matter to the police after the suspect failed to deliver the child to school as usual and subsequently went into hiding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after the disappearance, the family was contacted by the suspect, who demanded a ransom of \u20a62,000,000 for the child’s release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a desperate bid to ensure the safety of their daughter, the family reportedly begged and the ransom was later reduced to \u20a6500,000 which they complied with the ransom demands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, police operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), acting on high-level intelligence, were already tracking the suspect\u2019s movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation reached a climax when police stormed the suspect\u2019s hideout in the Ughelli area. Kelvin Ogaga was taken into custody without further incident. During the raid, officers recovered \u20a6127,000, believed to be a portion of the paid ransom, as well as several items allegedly purchased with the proceeds of the crime. The motorcycle used to facilitate the abduction was also impounded as evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe: During a press briefing, SP Edafe praised the collaborative efforts of the Anti-Vice Squad. He emphasized the Command\u2019s commitment to weeding out criminal elements, stating, “We are committed to protecting lives and ensuring public safety. The arrest of the suspect sends a clear message that there is no hiding place for those who target the vulnerable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for a local security network in the Abraka region, who requested anonymity for security reasons, noted the increasing danger of “familiarity-based” crimes. “We often trust the bike men who take our children to school daily. This incident serves as a painful reminder to parents to be extra vigilant and conduct background checks even on those we consider regulars,” the source stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Clement Okoro, a child rights advocate in Delta State, expressed relief at the child’s safe return. “While we celebrate the rescue, we must also focus on the long-term trauma such events cause. We urge the state government to support the family through the rehabilitation process and to strengthen community-policing initiatives to prevent recurrence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect remains in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine if he has been involved in previous criminal activities. The Delta State Police Command has urged residents to continue providing timely information to the authorities to help maintain peace and security across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
