The colourful event brought together university management, academic staff, parents, nvited guests to celebrate the beginning of another academic journey for thousands of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, congratulated them on successfully gaining admission into one of Nigeria&#8217;s leading state universities. He noted that admission into DELSU was highly competitive, explaining that only 9,498 candidates secured admission from the tens of thousands of applicants who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and successfully passed the university&#8217;s Post-UTME screening exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Asagba described matriculation as more than a ceremonial event, saying it represents the formal acceptance of students into the university community and the beginning of a journey that demands discipline, commitment, integrity, and academic excellence. He urged the freshers to remain focused on their studies and avoid behaviours capable of jeopardising their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vice-Chancellor specifically warned students against involvement in cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, internet fraud, indecent dressing, and other forms of misconduct that violate the institution&#8217;s rules and regulations. According to him, such activities have destroyed many promising careers, adding that the university has zero tolerance for actions capable of tarnishing its reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also cautioned students about excessive use of social media, describing it as a useful tool that can easily become a distraction when not properly managed. He encouraged them to prioritise their education, develop good study habits, participate in productive extracurricular activities, and build positive relationships with fellow students and lecturers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the university&#8217;s achievements, Professor Asagba expressed pride in DELSU&#8217;s growing academic reputation. He disclosed that recent national and international rankings placed the university among Nigeria&#8217;s top-performing institutions, attributing the achievement to quality teaching, research, innovation, and the dedication of members of staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents and guardians who attended the ceremony expressed joy over the successful admission of their children. Many advised the new students to take advantage of the academic opportunities available within the university and remain committed to their educational goals. Some students also shared their excitement, describing their admission as the fulfilment of a long-held dream. They promised to study hard and uphold the values of the institution throughout their stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education experts believe that the admission of nearly ten thousand students reflects the growing demand for quality higher education in Nigeria.
