{"id":1354,"date":"2026-07-14T13:47:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T12:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1354"},"modified":"2026-07-14T13:47:53","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T12:47:53","slug":"residents-count-losses-as-rain-leaves-abraka-streets-flooded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1354","title":{"rendered":"Residents Count Losses As Rain Leaves Abraka Streets Flooded"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Christopher Nelly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arrival of the rainy season has once again exposed the poor condition of several roads in Abraka, leaving residents and students struggling to move through flooded streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a visit to the affected areas, I observed residents walking along the edges of the roads to avoid floodwater, while commercial motorcycle riders slowed down to avoid hidden potholes beneath the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Okoro, a caretaker who lives in one of the hostels in the area, said the flooding has become a recurring problem every rainy season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe road gets flooded whenever it rains, making it difficult for residents and students to move around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students living in nearby lodges also expressed frustration over the condition of the road. They said getting to lectures during the rainy season has become stressful, adding that many wear slippers while walking through the flooded areas and change into shoes after arriving on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Apart from making movement difficult, residents expressed concern that stagnant water could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks if the situation persists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Motorists and commercial motorcycle operators also called for the rehabilitation of the road, saying it would improve transportation, reduce flooding, and make life easier for residents and the large student population living in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Christopher Nelly The arrival of the rainy season has once again exposed the poor condition of several roads in Abraka, leaving residents and students struggling to move through flooded streets.
