{"id":1396,"date":"2026-07-14T16:24:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1396"},"modified":"2026-07-14T16:24:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:24:13","slug":"delsu-sug-launches-free-health-outreach-to-promote-early-disease-detection-among-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1396","title":{"rendered":"DELSU SUG Launches Free Health Outreach to Promote Early Disease Detection Among Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Peter Marcus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ABRAKA, Delta State<\/strong> \u2013 Hundreds of students at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, benefited from free medical screenings on <strong>May 20<\/strong> as the Students&#8217; Union Government (SUG) organized a health outreach aimed at promoting early disease detection and improving health awareness among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The outreach, held at the <strong>Prof. Andy Egwuyenga SUG Stand<\/strong> on Campus II, formed part of the union&#8217;s efforts to encourage preventive healthcare by helping students monitor their health before illnesses become severe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking during the programme, the SUG President, <strong>Amb. Com. Kingsley O. Dumuje<\/strong>, said the initiative was designed to help students understand their health status and make informed lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the outreach offered free screenings for <strong>Hepatitis B, malaria<\/strong>, and other essential health indicators, enabling participants to detect potential health issues early and seek appropriate medical attention where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that improving students&#8217; awareness of their personal health would contribute to healthier lifestyles, increased productivity, and better academic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme attracted a large turnout of students and university officials. The Vice-Chancellor, <strong>Prof. Samuel Asagba<\/strong>, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), <strong>Prof. Edmund Atakpo<\/strong>.
