The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University (DELSU) organised a successful Free Medical Outreach<\/strong> on May 20, 2026<\/strong>, as part of its Health Week activities aimed at promoting students’ well-being and encouraging preventive healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, held at the Prof. Andy Egwunyenga SUG Stand, Site II<\/strong>, brought together students, health professionals, and university officials for a day of free medical services, health education, and awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach featured free health screenings, allowing students to assess their health status and receive professional advice on disease prevention and healthy living. Health awareness sessions were also organised to educate participants on common health challenges and the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking through the initiative, the SUG reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare, emphasizing that good health remains essential for academic success and personal development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUG President, Comrade Kingsley Ovedje Dumuje<\/strong>, attended the programme and spent time interacting with students. Organisers said his decision to sit among the students throughout the event reflected his commitment to inclusive and accessible leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach was coordinated by the Director of Health, Safety and Environment, Comrade Akande Bukola<\/strong>, with support from members of the Students’ Union Government. Several health professionals and invited guests from within and outside Abraka also participated in the health symposium, where they educated students on various health-related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants benefited from a range of free medical services, including HIV screening, blood pressure checks, blood group testing, urine analysis<\/strong>, and basic first-aid training<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students who attended the programme described it as informative and beneficial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph Sharon<\/strong>, a student of the Department of Banking and Finance, said the outreach provided valuable health knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’m thrilled to be here today. This event has taught me how to administer first aid and check my health status. I thank the SUG President for this wonderful initiative,” the student said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, Ochuku<\/strong>, a student of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, commended the organisers for the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I learned about the Health Week from a friend. The event was enlightening, and I’m looking forward to the next session. Kudos to the SUG for their great work,” the student said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outreach highlighted the Students’ Union Government’s commitment to supporting the holistic development of students by promoting health consciousness and preventive healthcare.
