The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)<\/strong> has disbursed \u20a6392,876,550<\/strong> to eligible students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka<\/strong>, for the 2025\/2026 academic session<\/strong>, providing financial relief to beneficiaries amid the country’s prevailing economic challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba<\/strong>, has consistently encouraged students to take advantage of the Federal Government’s interest-free student loan scheme to ease the burden of tuition and other educational expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest disbursement forms part of the university’s broader student welfare initiatives and complements the Vice-Chancellor’s earlier announcement that there would be no increase in school fees<\/strong> for the 2025\/2026 academic session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NELFUND Commends DELSU’s Student-Centred Policy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

DELSU’s management recently received commendation from NELFUND after directing that students whose loan applications had attained “Verified”<\/strong> or “Disbursed”<\/strong> status be allowed to sit for their first-semester examinations pending the completion of the payment process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The directive, issued through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), was described by NELFUND as a student-friendly policy that aligns with the objectives of the Federal Government’s education loan scheme by ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent eligible students from continuing their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi<\/strong>, praised the university’s flexibility, noting that the approach reflects the fund’s commitment to expanding access to higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice-Chancellor Encourages Students to Apply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Asagba has repeatedly urged students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, to apply for the interest-free loan programme. He noted that repayment is only expected after graduation and once beneficiaries secure employment, making the scheme an important opportunity for students facing financial difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university remains committed to aligning its policies with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve access to quality higher education through strategic interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications Still Open<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

NELFUND has extended applications for the 2025\/2026<\/strong> loan cycle to enable more eligible students to benefit from the programme. Students are advised to visit the official NELFUND portal to verify their application status and complete any outstanding documentation where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest disbursement further underscores DELSU’s commitment to student welfare under the leadership of Prof. Asagba. Alongside initiatives such as the expanded Work-Study Scheme, university stakeholders say the partnership with NELFUND has provided much-needed financial support for students navigating the current economic realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
