Students who live off campus and residents of abraka have raised concerns over poor drainage system in some parts of abraka, saying the problem is affecting houses and making life more difficult, especially during rainy season.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Many students as well as residents when interviewed explained that whenever heavy rainfall occurs the roads becomes flooded and since there is no drainage channels, it begins to enter houses, compounds, buildings and cause damages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A resident and also a student of delsu, Ubaka success, said this situation threatens people living in affected areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0“Anytime it rains heavily, water usually enters my room, there was even a time I traveled for holiday and only for me to return to a flooded room, my foodstuffs got spoilt, it was so painful”. She said<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another student, Emmanuel chimezie showed concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When it rains heavily,some roads are covered with water and students use their barefoot to enter the water,and most affordable houses are in those areas that is why students rent there”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another resident,Mr Philip Johnson,he was once a student and now the mayor of saint Donald hostel blamed the problem on poor drainage maintenance and improper waste disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Some people dump waste on the roads,when it rains the water cannot flow well so it ends up flooding nearby houses.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Philip has also faced other challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Student hardly get comfortable in their accomodation,and most times the houses leaks”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these particular quote I don’t think the fault is on the rain, it should go to the landlords, because most of them want to spend less on building materials,thereby buying cheap materials that doesn’t last for houses and at the end of the day students or residents are most time the ones who fix them up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landlords also show concerns over the effect of flooding on their buildings.According to a landlord,Mr James onun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We repair cracked walls,damaged floors, structure around our buildings,these repairs cost money that could be used on other things”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bad roads, infrastructure threatens housing areas, by the time the water weakens the building it will end up collapsing or by the time students or residents sees cracks on the building nobody would want to rent there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe reconstructing the roads, landlords should build their houses on strong  and lasting materials,so when it rains it would not cause damages to property and it can create a safer environment for residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  So we hope that a solution will be made on the construction of roads, because of not landlords will see more reasons to increase rents for residents,that is another story on how rents also become a challenge for students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
