The 2025\/2026 football season ended with drama and historic results as Arsenal ended a 22-year wait to win the Premier League title, while Paris Saint-Germain, PSG, secured a second consecutive UEFA Champions League trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both competitions delivered intense matches, remarkable goals, and standout individual performances that kept fans worldwide engaged throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twenty clubs competed in the 2025\/2026 Premier League season, with Arsenal and Manchester City emerging as the leading contenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race remained tight until the final weeks, with every result affecting the standings for the title, European qualification, and relegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arsenal finished the season on 85 points, seven points ahead of Manchester City on 78 points, to clinch the league championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It marked the club\u2019s first Premier League title in 22 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a crucial encounter between both sides, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described the match as a \u201cfinal,\u201d saying a loss would end City\u2019s title hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said his team\u2019s position at the top was a \u201cprivilege\u201d earned through months of consistency, and insisted the title race was not over despite setbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who followed the season highlighted key performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ozonuwe Godwin, a 100-level English and Literary Studies student, said Declan Rice had the biggest impact for Arsenal during their title-winning campaign, while Erling Haaland was Manchester City\u2019s standout player as the league\u2019s highest goal scorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United also drew praise. Golley Israel, a 100-level Public Relations student, said Fernandes won the Premier League Player of the Season award and the Golden Playmaker award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He set a new Premier League record with 21 assists in a single season, breaking the previous record of 20 held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Olorogun Success, a final-year Physiology student, added that Fernandes recorded 8 goals and 21 assists in the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the bottom of the table, clubs fighting relegation produced several dramatic results, with lower-ranked teams securing surprise points against higher-ranked opponents, further underscoring the league\u2019s reputation for unpredictability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Europe, 36 clubs competed in the 2025\/2026 UEFA Champions League. Participants included Arsenal, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea. Each team played 8 matches in the league phase before progressing to the knockout rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After months of competition, Arsenal and PSG reached the final played at the Pusk\u00e1s Ar\u00e9na in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The match ended 1-1 after extra time. PSG won 4-3 on penalties to claim their second straight Champions League title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Felix Blessing Iruoghene, a 300-level Mass Communication student and Director of Sports, Commessa, said Arsenal\u2019s Gabriel Magalhaes had the biggest impact for the Gunners in the competition, describing him as key to Arsenal\u2019s defense despite missing the decisive penalty in the shootout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olorogun Success said what stood out for her in the Champions League was \u201cArsenal lost it to PSG despite not losing any game except the final match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Football stakeholders said both the Premier League and the Champions League again demonstrated why they remain the most prestigious competitions in world football, combining tactical quality, individual brilliance, and dramatic finishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
