{"id":1518,"date":"2026-07-15T08:51:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T07:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1518"},"modified":"2026-07-15T08:51:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T07:51:12","slug":"poor-street-lighting-worries-abraka-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1518","title":{"rendered":"Poor Street Lighting Worries Abraka Residents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By<\/strong> <strong>Divine<\/strong> <strong>Richard<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents and students living in different parts of Abraka have expressed concern over the increasing number of streets without functional lighting, saying the situation has made movement at night difficult and raised fears about security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Areas around the university community, including roads leading to students\u2019 lodges and some off-campus neighbourhoods, are said to become extremely dark after sunset due to faulty or non-existent streetlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A student of Delta State University, who identified herself simply as Blessing, said she now avoids walking alone at night because of the poor lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She explained that many students feel unsafe returning from evening lectures, group discussions, or other activities after dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another resident, Mr. Patrick Efe, explained that the poor lighting affects not only students but also traders and other members of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that many business owners experience reduced patronage at night because people are reluctant to move around in poorly lit areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some commercial motorcycle operators also appealed to the relevant authorities to improve street lighting, noting that poor visibility increases the risk of road accidents and makes it difficult to identify bad portions of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They added that brighter streets would encourage safer movement for both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents believe that improving street lighting will enhance public safety, support businesses operating at night, and make the university community more secure for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also urged members of the public to protect public facilities from vandalism, stressing that maintaining community infrastructure is a shared responsibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Divine Richard Residents and students living in different parts of Abraka have expressed concern over the increasing number of streets without functional lighting, saying the situation has made movement at night difficult and raised fears about security.
