{"id":1525,"date":"2026-07-15T09:17:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T08:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1525"},"modified":"2026-07-15T09:17:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T08:17:25","slug":"court-adjourns-land-dispute-case-to-july-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1525","title":{"rendered":"Court Adjourns Land Dispute Case To July 22"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By<\/strong> <strong>Divine<\/strong> <strong>Ibhaobe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The High Court of Justice, Delta State, Abraka Judicial Division, has adjourned a land dispute case between Mr. Avwirorosuoma Kelvin Ovo and Mr. Emesi Capable Oghenerhie until July 22, 2026, for further hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The matter, Suit No. HCA\/20\/2024, came up before His Lordship, Justice S. I. Okeleke, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During proceedings, counsel to the claimant informed the court that he had just been served with processes filed by the defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He requested an adjournment to enable him study and respond to the documents before the hearing could continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After considering the submissions of both parties, Justice Okeleke granted the application and fixed July 22, 2026, for further hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case, which involves ownership and boundary claims to a parcel of land in Abraka, has generated considerable interest within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court urged both parties to explore the possibility of an amicable resolution outside the courtroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The adjournment means arguments and evidence in the dispute will resume later this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a related development, <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1406\">a High Court sitting in Abraka has struck out a civil suit filed by\u00a0Hon. Felix Erhomedafe\u00a0against\u00a0Unity Bank Plc\u00a0after the claimant\u2019s counsel repeatedly failed to appear in court to prosecute the matter.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case,\u00a0Suit No. HCA\/17\/2021, came up for hearing, but the claimant\u2019s counsel was absent when the matter was called.
