In\u00a0 farming areas around Ekrejeta and the outskirts of Abraka showed farmers tending cassava, maize, vegetables, plantain and yam fields. Many of them expressed concern over the rising prices of fertilizer, herbicides and transportation, saying these challenges are reducing their profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Monday Akpoveta, a farmer in Abraka, said farming has become more demanding than it was a few years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We still go to the farm every day because this is how we feed our families. But buying fertilizer and hiring labour now costs much more than before. Sometimes, after selling our harvest, the profit is very small, he said. Another farmer, Oghenevwede, who grows vegetables, explained that irregular rainfall has also affected crop yields this planting season. When the rain delays, crops do not grow well. When it rains heavily for many days, some farms become flooded. We just have to manage and hope for a better harvest, Some traders at Abraka Market side&nbsp; that they depend largely on produce supplied by local farmers. According to them, fresh vegetables,&nbsp; and plantain are usually available during the harvest season, although prices have increased because of higher production and transport costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many farmers in Abraka, agriculture remains more than a means of survival.
