The Department of Mass Communication recorded a convincing 2\u20130 victory over the Department of Journalism in a keenly contested match at the Delta State University (DELSU) Inter-Faculty Football Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The match, played at the university sports field, drew a sizeable crowd of students who came to cheer their departments in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mass Communication took control of the game from the opening minutes and were rewarded with a goal in the first half after a swift attacking move broke through the Journalism defence. The goal sparked celebrations among supporters of the department, who continued to rally behind their team throughout the encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Journalism responded positively and created a few chances in search of an equaliser but failed to convert their opportunities as the Mass Communication backline stood firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams battling for possession. However, Mass Communication extended their lead midway through the half with another well-taken goal to seal a 2\u20130 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking after the match, a spectator from the Department of Mass Communication, Kugbere Emuesiri Lourenta, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was motivated to come and watch the match because it involved two departments in our faculty, Mass Communication and Journalism. In a previous encounter, Journalism defeated Mass Communication 4\u20130, so I was expecting Mass Communication to come back stronger this time. I wanted to see how the team would perform and whether they could get revenge for that defeat.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Some students who watched the game described the encounter as entertaining and commended both teams for displaying sportsmanship despite the intensity of the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Journalism student, Mokwunyei Gladys Anita, who witnessed the game, said the department would learn from the defeat and prepare better for future fixtures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Mass Communication student, Miss Otojareri Fejiro Faith, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yes, the result surprised me. Although I am a Mass Communication student, I did not expect my department to win the match. Before the game, I felt Journalism had the advantage because many of their players appeared stronger and more physically imposing. However, the match proved that football is not only about size or appearance. The Mass Communication team showed determination, teamwork, and skill, which helped them secure the victory. Their performance reminded everyone not to underestimate a team based on first impressions.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The DELSU Inter-Faculty Football Competition is organised annually to promote sports development, foster unity among students, and strengthen the spirit of healthy competition across faculties within the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
