He explained that some departments still rely on lecture spaces located in other faculties due to limited available facilities.

He noted that the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, being a relatively new faculty, does not yet have enough lecture halls of its own and sometimes makes use of available spaces in other parts of the campus.

The staff member also highlighted efforts by the university to modernise teaching through the introduction of electronic boards and projectors. He said the facilities were introduced during the administration of former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretomode, to make teaching more interactive and effective for both lecturers and students.

According to him, the aim of the initiative was to move away from traditional teaching methods and encourage lecturers to integrate technology into classroom activities. With projectors and electronic boards, lecturers can display notes, images, videos, and illustrations that help students understand lessons better.

However, he explained that some lecturers, particularly older academics, found it difficult to adapt to the technology because they had limited exposure to computers and digital tools during their own academic training.

“Some lecturers preferred the methods they had been using for many years,” he said.

As a result, some electronic boards became underutilised, while only a few lecturers continued to use them regularly.

The staff member noted that younger lecturers are generally more comfortable with technology and more willing to explore digital teaching methods. According to him, many young academics now use computers, online resources, presentation software, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to prepare and deliver lectures.

He expressed confidence that the university would continue to move towards a more technology-driven learning environment as more lecturers become familiar with modern teaching approaches.

He added that technology can make lessons more engaging and easier to understand because students are able to access visual materials such as pictures, videos, diagrams, and other learning resources that complement classroom instruction.

Beyond teaching facilities, the staff member also highlighted improvements in electricity supply across the campus. He explained that previous university administrations made efforts to improve power availability, which has supported academic activities.

According to him, the current management is also exploring alternative energy solutions, including solar power, to provide more reliable electricity while reducing dependence on generators and limiting environmental pollution.

The staff member praised the current Vice-Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Oghenrovo Asagba, for focusing on long-term development and innovation. He said efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and create a better learning environment for students.

Speaking on healthcare services, he explained that the university has introduced measures to respond quickly to medical emergencies involving students and staff.

According to him, ambulances are often available, especially during examination periods when large numbers of students are present on campus. He added that students who fall ill or experience emergencies are first taken to the medical annex at Campus 3 for immediate treatment.

By Alfred Justice The classroom experience at Delta State University (DELSU), Campus 3, Abraka, is gradually changing as the introduction of modern teaching tools, improved electricity supply, and enhanced student support services continue to shape learning on campus.
