From the early evening hours, Campus Two came alive with songs of praise, prayers, and testimonies as students gathered to commit the new academic session and their studies into God’s hands.

A Night of Worship and Thanksgiving

The programme began with an opening prayer, followed by intense sessions of praise and worship led by student ministers and invited gospel artists. The venue was filled with students singing together, expressing gratitude, and declaring God’s faithfulness over the university community.

Several students shared testimonies of how they had overcome challenges such as academic pressure, financial difficulties, and family struggles. The testimonies created an atmosphere of faith and encouraged other students facing similar challenges.

Intercessory prayer sessions were also held for the university management, lecturers, the SUG administration, and the entire DELSU community. Special prayers were offered for students preparing for examinations, prospective students, and the protection and success of everyone within the university environment.

Purpose of the Programme

Speaking during the event, members of the SUG leadership said the Praise and Worship Night was organised as part of SUG Week activities to bring students together spiritually and remind them of the importance of faith in achieving success.

According to the organisers, the programme was designed to provide students with an opportunity to take a break from academic stress and reconnect with God.

“We believe that with God on our side, this session will be one of the best for DELSU students,” one of the SUG officials said.

The event also aimed to promote unity among students regardless of their departments, backgrounds, or personal differences. It provided an avenue for fellowship, encouragement, and spiritual growth.

Massive Turnout and Student Participation

The turnout for the programme was impressive, as students arrived with Bibles, notebooks, and expectations for a meaningful experience. Campus Two, which is usually quiet in the evenings, was transformed into a centre of worship and celebration.

The event featured drama presentations, spoken-word poetry, and dance ministrations that kept students engaged throughout the night. The worship session lasted for several hours, with many students remaining until the closing prayers.

Some students described the programme as refreshing and timely, especially with academic activities, examinations, and projects approaching.

“This is exactly what we needed. School can be stressful, but nights like this remind us that God is with us,” one student said.

Appreciation and Future Plans

The SUG leadership appreciated the students, worship teams, technical crew, ushers, and security personnel who contributed to the success of the event. They also expressed gratitude to the university management for approving the use of the venue.

The union promised to organise more programmes during the academic session aimed at supporting students spiritually, mentally, and socially. Other activities planned for SUG Week include health outreach, career talks, talent hunt, and a grand dinner night.

In his closing remarks, an SUG executive encouraged students to remain focused, prayerful, and committed to their studies.

“Let us go into this session knowing that with God and hard work, we will all graduate with success stories,” he said.

By Eduviere Oghenetejiri Victory The atmosphere at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka Campus Two, was filled with worship, gratitude, and unity as the Student Union Government (SUG) hosted a Praise and Worship Night on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
