ABRAKA, DELTA STATE<\/strong> \u2014 The Faculty of Computing at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, is recording steady growth in technology-related activities, with increasing focus on emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Data Science, and other areas of computing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development was observed during a visit to the faculty, where permission for interviews and information gathering was granted by the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Prof. E. Akpojaro, as part of a science and technology report on the university\u2019s digital advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further insights from the Head of Department of Cybersecurity, Dr. Atajeromavwo Edafe John, highlighted the growing relevance of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, \u201cArtificial Intelligence is a branch of computing that enables machines to think, analyse, and make decisions in ways similar to humans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information gathered from final-year project manuals also revealed that 400-level students are actively involved in practical projects focused on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. These projects include real-life applications such as fraud detection, spam filtering, recommendation systems, and facial recognition technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projects indicate that students are not only receiving classroom instruction but are also being exposed to practical solutions capable of addressing real-world challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these developments, stakeholders have called for increased innovation, visibility, and practical demonstration of technological achievements within the university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in an interview, Ohwonigho Benedict Okpese, a programmer with Delta State Microsoft Imagine Academy, stressed the importance of creating more opportunities for technology students to showcase their innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStudents in departments related to technology should be given the avenue to showcase their projects and developments, not just to their faculty heads but also to students from other departments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benedict noted that organising technology exhibitions and awareness programmes focused on Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies would help students and staff understand the progress being made within DELSU\u2019s technology ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDELSU can organise a programme to create awareness about AI and technology and also use it as an avenue to show signs of development in departments related to technology,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some 100-level students also expressed the need for greater digital transformation in university processes. They suggested that administrative activities such as student screening should be improved through digital systems to reduce paperwork and make processes faster and more efficient for students and lecturers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As DELSU continues to develop its technology ecosystem, stakeholders believe that increased visibility, improved digital infrastructure, and stronger practical applications of technology will further enhance the university\u2019s contribution to science and technological advancement in Abraka.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
