{"id":1744,"date":"2026-07-15T17:01:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1744"},"modified":"2026-07-15T17:01:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:01:47","slug":"four-young-men-arrested-in-asaba-for-reckless-driving-alleged-internet-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1744","title":{"rendered":"Four Young Men Arrested in Asaba for Reckless Driving, Alleged Internet Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Ese Precious <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Delta State Police Command has arrested four young men, including three teenagers, for alleged reckless driving and suspected involvement in internet fraud in Asaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspects, aged 18, 19, 19, and 21, were arrested around midnight on Friday, July 4, 2026, along Opanam Road, Asaba, after police operatives on visibility patrol reportedly spotted them driving in a convoy of luxury vehicles at high speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects were driving four vehicles \u2014 including three Lexus cars and a Mercedes-Benz \u2014 at speeds estimated at about 120 kilometres per hour in what he described as resembling a street race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A video released by the police spokesperson on Sunday, July 6, showed the suspects being questioned by officers. Some of them allegedly admitted to involvement in internet fraud, popularly known in Nigeria as &#8220;Yahoo&#8221; or &#8220;celebrity&#8221; scams, claiming that proceeds from the activities enabled their lifestyles and acquisition of luxury vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the suspects, a 19-year-old student of Film and Multimedia at Dennis Osadebay University, reportedly stated that he was sponsoring his education through proceeds from his activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SP Edafe described the incident as a warning sign about the dangers of reckless driving and the misuse of wealth obtained through illegal means. He also cautioned that such behaviour could lead to fatal road accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arrest has generated discussions on social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook, with many users expressing concern over youth involvement in cybercrime, excessive displays of wealth, and road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspects are expected to face charges relating to reckless driving and alleged fraud offences as investigations continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to combat internet fraud across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ese Precious The Delta State Police Command has arrested four young men, including three teenagers, for alleged reckless driving and suspected involvement in internet fraud in Asaba.
