{"id":1750,"date":"2026-07-15T17:08:33","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:08:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1750"},"modified":"2026-07-15T17:08:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:08:34","slug":"delta-police-arrest-19-year-old-university-student-with-illegal-firearm-in-asaba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=1750","title":{"rendered":"Delta Police Arrest 19-Year-Old University Student with Illegal Firearm in Asaba"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Unity Enfomi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old university student, Degreat Nwadozie, for allegedly being in possession of an illegal firearm and a battle axe in Asaba, Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was arrested by police operatives near the Inter-Bau Roundabout during a routine stop-and-search operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edafe said a locally made pistol was allegedly recovered from the suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation. He added that four other suspects were also arrested in connection with the firearm recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police spokesperson disclosed that a search of the suspect\u2019s residence later led to the recovery of a battle axe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SP Edafe stated that preliminary investigations revealed that Nwadozie is a student of Criminology and Security Studies at Dennis Osadebay University. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to purchasing the locally made firearm in Onitsha, Anambra State, for between \u20a6320,000 and \u20a6350,000, claiming he acquired it for personal protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police spokesperson also said the suspect admitted that he was preparing to be initiated into the Vikings Confraternity, a banned cult group, and had obtained the firearm ahead of the planned initiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The confession was contained in an interrogation video shared by SP Bright Edafe on TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Edafe said detectives are currently investigating the source of the firearm, individuals involved in its sale, and other persons connected to the suspect\u2019s alleged cult activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He reaffirmed the command\u2019s commitment to combating cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes across Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police spokesperson urged parents, educational institutions, and community leaders to guide young people away from criminal associations, while encouraging residents to provide useful information that could assist security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Unity Enfomi The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old university student, Degreat Nwadozie, for allegedly being in possession of an illegal firearm and a battle axe in Asaba, Delta State.
