Students in Abraka have expressed concern over the continuous rise in food prices, saying the situation has made feeding increasingly difficult and affected their daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Findings from interviews with students and traders revealed that the cost of essential food items has increased significantly, forcing many students to adjust their eating habits and spend more on meals than before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perpetual Ovwighose, an indigene of Abraka, said the increase in food prices has affected her ability to maintain a proper feeding routine. She identified rice as one of the food items that has experienced a noticeable price increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe money no longer reaches to buy food. You can get \u20a630,000 and still not buy enough foodstuff. We cannot eat three square meals daily again; sometimes even two meals is difficult,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that although she still eats rice, she now consumes it less frequently and in smaller quantities because she has to carefully manage her expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow you have to calculate carefully how you spend and eat,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthony Temienor, a 100-level Physiology student, also expressed concern over the rising cost of food items such as rice, beans, and tomatoes. He said some food products have increased by between \u20a6500 and \u20a6700, making it harder for students to afford regular meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs it is now, I eat two times a day. Fuel increase, corruption, and bad governance are affecting the economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthony called on the government to implement measures aimed at reducing fuel prices, reviewing subsidy policies, and creating more employment opportunities to improve the economic situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A foodstuff and provisions trader along River Road, identified as Mummy Eliana, confirmed that food prices have risen sharply compared to previous years. She said many items in the market now cost three to four times their former prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that the increase was caused by rising transportation costs, fuel expenses, and higher costs across the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, customers are now buying fewer items because they are struggling to cope with the rising prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe business is no longer moving like before. Students now buy less foodstuff than they used to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trader also noted that sellers themselves face challenges when restocking their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven if sellers carry \u20a6400,000 to the market, they may not get enough goods to buy,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The continuous increase in food prices remains a major concern among students and residents of Abraka, with many calling for urgent measures to reduce the cost of living and make food more affordable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
