The Delta State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcycle rider, Kelvin Ogaga, for allegedly abducting a three-year-old girl entrusted to his care and demanding a \u20a62 million ransom from her parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the suspect had been employed by the child’s parents to transport the girl to and from school for a monthly fee of \u20a610,000. He reportedly carried out the assignment for about three weeks before allegedly masterminding the child’s abduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the police, instead of taking the child to school on the day of the incident, Ogaga allegedly diverted her to a hideout and switched off his personal phone. Using another phone line, he reportedly contacted the child’s parents and demanded a \u20a62 million ransom, warning them not to involve the police if they wanted to see their daughter alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unable to reach the rider through his regular phone number, the child’s parents initially believed he had also become a victim. They later reported the matter to the police, prompting the Delta State Police Command to commence an intelligence-led investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family eventually negotiated the ransom down to \u20a6500,000, which they paid to secure the child’s release. The victim was released shortly afterwards and reunited safely with her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SP Bright Edafe said operatives of the Command’s intelligence unit, using technology-driven investigative methods, later identified Ogaga as the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping and arrested him. He added that part of the ransom money was recovered during the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that financial hardship motivated the crime. He allegedly told investigators that he discussed his financial challenges with a friend identified as Omon, who suggested kidnapping the child for ransom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the police, Ogaga further claimed that Omon and his girlfriend participated in the operation. He alleged that Omon made the initial ransom call to the child’s parents before handing over the phone to him and later monitored the negotiations from a distance. The suspect also admitted using part of the ransom money to settle personal expenses after releasing the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe child is safe, the suspect has been arrested, and part of the ransom has been recovered,\u201d SP Bright Edafe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police spokesman urged parents and guardians to exercise caution when entrusting their children to caregivers and transport providers. He advised families to conduct proper background checks before placing children in the care of individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said investigations are ongoing, after which the suspect is expected to be charged to court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
