Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has emerged as the highest-ranked state-owned university in Nigeria and the 11th best university in the country, according to the latest Times Higher Education rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Samuel Asagba, announced the achievement, describing it as a significant milestone in DELSU\u2019s pursuit of academic excellence and institutional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Asagba said the ranking reflects the university\u2019s commitment to quality teaching, research, innovation, and improved academic standards. He attributed the achievement to the dedication of members of staff, students, and stakeholders who have contributed to the continuous development of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of efforts to sustain the progress, the Vice-Chancellor announced the commencement of major infrastructure projects across the university\u2019s campuses. The projects include the construction of a modern stadium, additional hostel blocks to accommodate more students, and the renovation of science laboratories and classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the projects are designed to create a more conducive learning environment, improve students\u2019 welfare, encourage sporting activities, and support talent development among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university has also expanded its academic structure with the establishment of three new faculties: Environmental Sciences, Computing Sciences, and Allied Health Sciences. Prof. Asagba explained that the new faculties were created to address the increasing demand for professionals in emerging fields and provide students with wider academic opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on security, the Vice-Chancellor assured students, parents, and staff that the university remains committed to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for learning. He noted that academic activities have fully resumed following a temporary precautionary suspension caused by security concerns in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recognition of outstanding contributions to the institution, Prof. Asagba announced the naming of the new Faculty of Management Sciences complex after former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga. He said the gesture was to honour his role in advancing the development of the university during his tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice-Chancellor also announced the appointment of Hilary Owamah as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), expressing confidence that the appointment would strengthen academic administration and support the university\u2019s vision for greater excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its improved ranking, expansion of academic programmes, and ongoing infrastructure development, Delta State University continues to strengthen its position as one of Nigeria\u2019s leading public universities, with a focus on academic excellence, research advancement, innovation, and student development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
