Point of Sale (POS) services have become an essential part of daily life for many students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, providing quick and convenient access to cash and other financial services without the need to visit a bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a major university town with a large student population, Abraka has witnessed a steady increase in the number of POS outlets located around hostels, campus entrances, markets, and commercial areas. The growing presence of these businesses reflects the increasing demand for accessible financial services among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Point of Sale (POS) service enables customers to carry out transactions such as cash withdrawals, deposits, money transfers, airtime purchases, and bill payments through licensed agents using electronic payment terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the growing patronage of POS services, Mrs. Kevwe Success<\/strong>, a POS operator in Abraka, said students account for a large percentage of her customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, many students prefer POS outlets because they offer faster and more convenient access to cash for transportation, feeding, academic expenses, and other daily needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Most students come here because it saves them the stress of going to the bank or looking for an ATM. They can quickly withdraw money, make transfers, or pay bills close to where they live or attend lectures,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She, however, identified unstable network connectivity as one of the major challenges affecting POS operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I prefer using POS agents because the process is faster and more convenient than going to the bank. Since many transport operators and small businesses around Abraka still prefer cash payments, POS services make life easier for students,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 100-level Philosophy student of Delta State University, Adanas Misan<\/strong>, said POS services have become indispensable to her daily routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, she regularly withdraws cash to pay for shuttle transportation within the university environment and for other personal expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also noted that poor network service occasionally disrupts transactions and causes delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial observers say the growing dependence on POS services reflects changing banking habits among young people, particularly in university communities where convenience, accessibility, and speed are highly valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although mobile banking applications and electronic transfers have become increasingly popular, cash transactions remain common in many small businesses, transportation services, and local markets within Abraka, making POS outlets an important part of the town’s informal financial system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents believe that improved telecommunications infrastructure, more reliable network services, and increased availability of digital payment options would further enhance financial transactions for students and business owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the student population continues to grow, POS operators are expected to remain key providers of financial services, helping students access cash and complete transactions efficiently while supporting commercial activities within the Abraka community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
