Students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, turned out in large numbers for the Student Week Bonfire Night organised by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) as part of activities marking SUG Week 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, held on Friday, July 10, 2026<\/strong>, at the Campus 2 grounds, commenced at 4:00 p.m.<\/strong> under the SUG Week theme, “One Week, One Campus, One Experience.”<\/strong> It brought together students from different faculties for an evening of relaxation, entertainment, and social interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bonfire, lit at the centre of the venue, created a lively atmosphere as students gathered to enjoy music, food, and cultural performances. Popular local delicacies, including suya, bole, roasted fish, and pepper soup<\/strong>, were available throughout the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the major highlights of the evening was a masquerade performance, which entertained the audience with colourful displays and energetic dances. Other activities included comedy performances, games, music by campus disc jockeys, and a giveaway session where students won cash prizes, data subscriptions, and branded gift items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the programme, members of the SUG leadership said the Bonfire Night was organised to provide students with an opportunity to relax, interact, and strengthen friendships ahead of the examination period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSUG Week is not just about lectures and seminars. We also want students to relax, connect, and enjoy campus life. Bonfire Night is about food, culture, and community,\u201d an SUG official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who attended the event described it as entertaining and well organised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tega, a final-year English Education student, said, \u201cI came for the suya but stayed for the vibes. The masquerade performance was amazing. This is the kind of programme we need more of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith, a 100-level Mass Communication student, said the programme created a welcoming atmosphere for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt felt like home. Food, music, friends, and the bonfire made the evening memorable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event ended later in the evening with students dancing around the bonfire as music continued to entertain the crowd. The Students’ Union Government expressed appreciation to everyone who participated and assured students that more exciting activities would be held before the conclusion of SUG Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
