Benikrukru Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, came alive with excitement as thousands of residents, tourists and entertainment enthusiasts gathered for the 2025\/2026 Benikrukru Carnival, an annual festival celebrating culture, fashion, music and community development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organised by the Esther Matthew Tonlagha (EMT) Foundation, the carnival attracted visitors from different parts of Nigeria and featured a blend of traditional displays, fashion exhibitions, live musical performances and philanthropic activities. The event was aimed at promoting unity, preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Gbaramatu Kingdom and encouraging tourism in Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the early hours of the day, boats and vehicles conveying visitors arrived in the riverine community as residents welcomed guests with colourful decorations and cultural performances. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as people dressed in beautifully designed traditional attire that reflected the customs and identity of the Ijaw people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event attracted several notable personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment industry, including award-winning musicians Burna Boy, Phyno, Timaya, Shallipopi and Zerrydl. Popular entertainers and actors such as Iyabo Ojo, Nancy Isime, Broda Shaggi, Buchi Franklin, William Benson, Tracy Brakemi, Ibinabo Fiberesima and Priscilla Ojo also attended, adding glamour to the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entertainment segment was one of the major highlights of the carnival. Thousands of fans cheered as the artistes performed some of their hit songs, while DJ Obi and DJ DSF kept the audience entertained with energetic music mixes throughout the celebration. The performances transformed the community into a vibrant entertainment hub, with many guests dancing and singing along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fashion also occupied a prominent place during the carnival as models and cultural groups showcased colourful traditional attire, handcrafted accessories, coral beads and contemporary African designs created by local fashion designers. The runway presentations highlighted the creativity of Delta State’s fashion industry and provided young designers with an opportunity to showcase their talents before a large audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traditional dance troupes from different communities performed cultural dances accompanied by drummers and indigenous musicians. Their performances reflected the history, customs and values of the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom and attracted loud applause from spectators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, a representative of the Esther Matthew Tonlagha Foundation said the carnival was organised to unite people through culture, entertainment and philanthropy while promoting the image of Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“The Benikrukru Carnival is more than entertainment. It is a celebration of our culture, our unity and our shared identity. Through this event, we hope to preserve our heritage while creating opportunities for young people in the creative industry,” the representative said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Many visitors commended the organisers for successfully hosting the event despite the large turnout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A visitor from Warri, Efe Akpobome, described the carnival as one of the most colourful festivals he had attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“The organisation was impressive. The performances were excellent, and seeing so many Nigerian entertainers in one place made the event memorable. I believe this carnival will continue to attract more visitors every year,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Fashion designer Ruth Emiko, who participated in the event, said the carnival created opportunities for emerging designers to promote African fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“Many people admired our designs and asked about our brands. Events like this encourage young designers because they provide exposure and help us reach more customers,” she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The 2025\/2026 Benikrukru Carnival reinforced its reputation as one of Delta State’s leading cultural festivals, providing a platform for promoting tourism, celebrating indigenous heritage and supporting the growth of Nigeria’s fashion and entertainment industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
