The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,”<\/strong> over allegations that he raped and assaulted a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, who later died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying the Command had commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the victim’s subsequent death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the police, the 40-year-old suspect allegedly invited the victim from Ughelli to Asaba on June 1, 2026, under the pretext of mentoring her in digital content creation and teaching her how to monetize online content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SP Edafe said preliminary investigations indicate that upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took the victim to a hotel, where she was physically assaulted and raped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police further stated that after the alleged incident, the victim returned home in emotional distress and informed members of her family about what had transpired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to SP Edafe, the victim recorded a video before her death in which she narrated the alleged assault and the psychological trauma she experienced. The video later circulated widely on social media, attracting public attention and prompting calls for justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police spokesman said the victim subsequently consumed a poisonous insecticide and was rushed to a medical facility, where she later died while receiving treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that investigators are examining all available evidence, including witness statements, digital materials and medical reports, to establish the sequence of events surrounding both the alleged assault and the victim’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SP Edafe disclosed that the arrest followed a formal petition submitted by the deceased’s family in collaboration with human rights activist Israel Joe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting on the petition, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed detectives attached to the Effurun Area Command to commence an immediate investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting detectives with their investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delta State Police Command emphasized that the allegations remain under investigation and have not been determined by any court of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SP Edafe reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial and professional investigation in accordance with the law, assuring the victim’s family and the public that anyone found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation would be prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid circulating unverified information capable of prejudicing the investigation, and allow the legal process to run its course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police further reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, combating sexual and gender-based violence, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice through due process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
