The Delta State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim abducted in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, following a coordinated operation involving officers of the Abraka Police Division, local vigilantes, and hunters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rescue operation, carried out on April 3, 2026, followed a distress report received by the police on April 1, indicating that armed men had invaded a residence at Denedo Extension, Abraka, abducted a resident, and fled into a nearby forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe<\/strong>, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised patrol teams, local vigilantes, and hunters to begin a coordinated search of the surrounding bush and railway corridor. Acting on intelligence and their knowledge of the terrain, the security team tracked the suspected kidnappers to their hideout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edafe explained that the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled when they realised that security operatives were closing in on them. The victim was rescued safely from a bush along the Abraka railway line without the payment of any ransom and was later reunited with family members after receiving medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police spokesperson said the rescued victim had provided useful information to investigators, which is expected to assist in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects. He added that tactical teams had continued combing nearby communities and forests as part of efforts to dismantle the criminal gang responsible for the abduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the operation, SP Bright Edafe commended the swift response of officers attached to the Abraka Police Division and praised the cooperation of vigilante members and hunters. He noted that collaboration between security agencies and local communities remains vital in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi<\/strong>, also commended the operatives for their professionalism and proactive response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime and protecting lives and property across Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents of Abraka welcomed the successful rescue and appealed for sustained security patrols, especially around isolated residential areas and roads frequently targeted by criminal gangs. Community leaders said stronger cooperation between residents and security agencies would help improve safety within the university town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of the time of filing this report, no arrests had been announced in connection with the abduction. However, the Delta State Police Command said investigations were ongoing and expressed confidence that those responsible would soon be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
