At a time when students are expected to spend hours reading books , searching for information ,and writing their assignments \u2018 a news digital tools is changing the way many of them study. With this artificial intelligence (AI) students generate ideas and complete academic tasks within minutes. From secondary school to university students are turning to ai tools as a quick Solution to their academic problems .while some students use it as a guide for assignments and difficult work , some students depend on ai to do everything for them and this is raising concern among teachers and lecturers about the students future learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with jesutekevwe joy ,an 100l student of the university of sokoto, department of business management, AI has become a useful tools in her academic life. She revealed that she stared using AI from her secondary school days and mostly use ChatGPT to help her understand topics she find difficult. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     According to joy ,AI has been helpful in completing assignments because it provides clearer explanations when she doesn\u2019t understand a particular course. She noted that, she doesn\u2019t rely on it for everything, but mainly uses it gor difficult courses .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201c there was a day I miss a class and the note my Coursemate sent to me were very difficult to understand then I ask ChatGPT to summarize it for me and put it in a more simpler words,\u201d she said . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Considering the benefits of AI joy still believes students are gradually becoming too dependent on AI . She explained that some students no longer take their time to think or brainstorm they just go straight to AI to search for answers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added when students depend on AI regularly it could make them less dependent and make them less creative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Joy added that she ensures the information provided by AI is correct by reading her book first before making her research for clearer explanations . According  to her student should know what they are searching for  before they go to AI for answer to avoid getting wrong answers from AI .  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   She believes that lecturers should allow students to use AI because not all students depend on AI completely ,\u201dsome students use it for clarity and better understanding,\u201d she said .  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     According to Mrs isibor happy , a lecturer in the department of pharmacy, delta state university (DELSU) ,said the rate at which students use AI is increasing and it\u2019s gradually affecting their ability to think independently. \u201cAccording to her before the use of AI , students spend more time in libraries reading books and carrying out research on their own .Before AI became popular, students usually went to the libary to look for books and conduct research .But now many students use ChatGPT to do assignments and projects , and sometimes they do not read it through before submitting it ,\u201dshe said . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the harm AI is causing , Mrs happy acknowledged that AI also has benefits. According to her students can\u2019t know everything and AI can help them gain more information and understand difficult topics. However, he warned that excessive use of AI could make students lose their ability to think critically and solve problems on their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 She added that universities should provide proper guidelines on the use of AI in education so that students can use responsibly and for learning purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201c I support the use of AI detection tools by lecturers because many students no longer want to read they even go as far as carrying their phone to exams hall to use AI for answers . AI should be used to improve understanding , not to replace Learning,\u201d she  added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      According to Wilson miracle  ,an ss3 student of faith academy, Warri,delta state,who said she was Introduced to ChatGPT by her classmate . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    According to her ,she uses ChatGPT for school work , but not all the time. She explained that she only use ChatGPT when she finds certain topics difficult to understand .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Miracle, admitted that Ai has made many students depend less on reading and personal research  . However, she said that she still tries to understand a topic before using ai for more understanding and details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI still use my textbook for school work because I don\u2019t depend completely on AI,\u201d she said . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also said that there was a times she also submitted an assignments generated with the help of  ChatGPT without properly checking it because she was too lazy to read through it . She also said that ai help students understand difficult topics better but warned that excessive use of ai could make students dull and lose their ability to think for themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   According to her when students depend too much on ai , they no longer think for themselves but allow ai to do the work for them . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Wilson Emmanuel , a secondary school teacher at faith academy Warri, delta state , expressed his concern over the increasing use of artificial intelligence among students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  According to him , students depending on ai is becoming a serious issue  because many students now use it to complete most of their assignments without properly going through the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u201c I have noticed that some students do not even know the meaning of what they have submitted. Some cannot pronounce certain words correctly or even spell them ,\u201d he said . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teacher noted that ai has greatly affected students reading habit , many now depend on ai rather than studying on their own because. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he agreed that ai has its benefits. According to him ,it has improved some students understanding on difficult subjects by helping them make research and learn at their own comfort . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c the benefits is that  students may not fully understand what their teacher explain in class , but when they do their research with ai tools , they can gain a better understanding of that subjects he explained,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also added that excessive usage of ai could have serious consequences on the students . Ai can affect their ability to think critically and solve problems on their own because many are already becoming addicted to using AI for their acdemic problems , he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs odiboh Elven believes that ai has both benefits and challenges for students .\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her , ai  has been helpful to children , especially in completing their assignments they do not understand and in explaining difficult topics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that ai has helped reduce the amount of money parents spend on extra lessons and private tutoring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Mrs elven said she would still buy textbook for her children because she doesn\u2019t want them to be completely dependent on ai. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c Everything has consequences , and too much use of ai can make our children stop thinking for themselves she added,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stressed that while ai can be a useful learning tools , parents must ensure that their children use it responsibly and still develop good reading habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
