The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has announced the immediate transition from physical to online clearance for all graduating students, a policy aimed at ending alleged financial extortion and reducing administrative burdens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Asagba made the announcement on July 15, 2026, during his address at an event themed “The Journey to Odyssey.”<\/strong> Hosted by the DELSU student community at the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) Large Hall, the event attracted Student Union Government (SUG) executives, student leaders, and other members of the university community. The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) also covered the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the audience, the Vice Chancellor declared that the era of graduates returning to campus for manual clearance had come to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Graduating students will not need to do their clearance physically anymore,”<\/em> Professor Asagba said. “There are rumours that people are extorting money from students. That will no longer be heard of because all clearance will now be done exclusively online through the university portal.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support the digital transition, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the university is expanding its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure by providing more computers for student use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also highlighted the establishment of the Department of Criminology under the Faculty of Social Sciences and expressed delight at interacting with students, noting that the atmosphere reminded him of his days as a student activist at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Asagba commended the DELSU Student Union Government for maintaining a healthy relationship with management and encouraged students to remain disciplined and uphold academic integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement has received widespread commendation, particularly from final-year students preparing for graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comrade Valerie B. Hillary, Vice President of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies and a final-year student, described the policy as a welcome relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a huge advantage for students,”<\/em> she said. “Physical clearance often requires accommodation, transportation, and additional expenses, especially for students who live far from Abraka.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the online system would eliminate unnecessary payments, improve transparency, and save graduates the stress of returning to campus solely for clearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
