The bustling atmosphere in Site 3, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, is no longer defined solely by students attending lectures. Every day, many students can be seen serving customers, selling food, styling hair, printing documents, cutting hair, and offering other services while pursuing their academic studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The growing number of student-owned businesses reflects how many undergraduates are finding ways to cope with the rising cost of living and educational expenses. From early morning until evening, business activities continue alongside lectures, making Site 3 one of the busiest student communities around the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many student entrepreneurs say they started their businesses to support themselves financially and reduce the burden on their parents or guardians. According to them, the income they generate helps cover the cost of textbooks, handouts, feeding, transportation, and other daily expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the students, Akpodiete Esther, who owns a hairdressing business in Site 3, said running a business while studying has not been easy, but it has been worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Balancing my lectures and my business can be stressful sometimes, especially during tests and examinations. However, it has taught me discipline and good time management. I make sure my academics remain my priority while serving my customers during my free periods,”<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okonkwo Cynthia, who sells peppered ponmo and meat, also described the business as an important source of income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The business helps me take care of my personal needs and some school expenses. Although there are days when it becomes difficult to combine both school and business, I keep going because it is helping me financially,”<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who patronize these businesses said they appreciate the convenience of having different services available within Site 3. They explained that buying from fellow students saves them the stress and transportation costs of travelling outside the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One customer, Emmanuel Oghene, said the businesses have made life easier for many students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whenever I need to print documents, get a haircut, or buy food after lectures, I don’t have to leave Site 3. Everything is available here, and at the same time, we are supporting our fellow students,”<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although student entrepreneurs face challenges such as limited time, academic pressure, and financial constraints, many remain committed to their businesses. They believe that careful planning and determination have enabled them to balance both responsibilities successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As more students embrace entrepreneurship, Site 3 continues to witness an increase in small businesses, showing that many undergraduates are not only focused on earning degrees but are also developing skills that may benefit them beyond graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
