Students living off campus also report difficulties getting to lectures, while traders say the flooding reduces customer turnout and sometimes damages their goods.

Some residents believe indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters worsens the situation by preventing water from flowing freely. Others blame the lack of adequate drainage infrastructure in parts of the community.

Commercial tricycle operators also say flooded roads slow transportation and increase vehicle maintenance costs. Pedestrians are often forced to walk through muddy or flooded areas, raising concerns about safety and public health.

Environmental experts say regular clearing of drains, proper waste disposal, and improved drainage systems could help reduce the impact of flooding. They also urged residents to avoid dumping refuse into waterways.

Despite repeated complaints, residents say flooding remains a recurring challenge in several neighbourhoods. They are calling on the relevant authorities to improve drainage infrastructure and implement effective flood-control measures before the rains become more severe.

Flooding continues to affect transportation, businesses, and everyday life in parts of Abraka.
