Alumni of Delta State University (DELSU) have continued to make meaningful contributions to the development of Site I and Site II through various initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, supporting students, and promoting academic excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, former students of the institution have remained actively involved in the growth of their alma mater by donating facilities, awarding scholarships, organizing mentorship programmes, sponsoring educational projects, and supporting activities that improve student welfare. Their contributions have complemented the efforts of the university management in creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several alumni associations, graduating classes, and individual graduates have embarked on projects ranging from the renovation of lecture halls and donation of classroom furniture to the provision of ICT equipment, books, and other learning materials. Others have invested in career development programmes that expose students to opportunities beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who spoke with this reporter described the interventions as impactful, saying they have helped bridge some of the gaps in infrastructure and student support across the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 400-level Theatre Arts student, Miracle<\/strong>, said alumni contributions demonstrate that graduates still have a strong attachment to the institution that shaped their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is inspiring to see former students return to give back to the university. Their support reminds us that success comes with a responsibility to help those coming behind. It also motivates us to work hard so that we can contribute in the future,” the student said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, Ukoha Jennifer<\/strong>, a 200-level Biotechnology student, noted that scholarship schemes and mentorship programmes organized by alumni have positively affected many students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Not every student can comfortably pay tuition and other academic expenses. Scholarships offered by alumni have relieved some of that burden. The mentorship sessions have also given students practical advice on career development, entrepreneurship, and leadership,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students, however, urged alumni groups to expand their interventions by supporting the construction of additional lecture halls, upgrading laboratories, improving internet facilities, and providing more reading spaces to meet the growing population of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A final-year Biotechnology student, who identified himself simply as Emmanuel<\/strong>, said improved digital facilities would better prepare students for the demands of today’s technology-driven world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We appreciate what alumni have done so far, but more investment in technology and innovation will benefit students across different faculties. Access to modern computers, reliable internet, and updated software will improve learning and research,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond infrastructure, alumni have also played important roles in mentoring students through seminars, leadership conferences, and career talks. These engagements provide opportunities for undergraduates to interact with experienced professionals who share practical knowledge about employment, entrepreneurship, and life after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many students believe these interactions help them develop confidence, improve their communication skills, and make informed decisions about their future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Education experts have consistently emphasized that active alumni engagement is one of the hallmarks of thriving universities around the world. They argue that former students who maintain strong ties with their institutions often contribute to research, infrastructure development, student mentorship, and fundraising efforts that enhance academic standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholders have therefore encouraged more DELSU graduates, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to participate in initiatives that promote sustainable development across Site I and Site II. They believe that increased collaboration between alumni, university management, and students will accelerate progress and create lasting benefits for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Delta State University continues to pursue academic excellence and expand its programmes, the commitment shown by its alumni serves as a reminder that the responsibility of building a great institution does not end at graduation. Through sustained support, mentorship, and investment in education, DELSU alumni are helping to shape a stronger university while inspiring current students to uphold the tradition of giving back after completing their studies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
