{"id":2507,"date":"2026-07-30T05:18:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T04:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=2507"},"modified":"2026-07-30T05:18:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T04:18:26","slug":"expectations-excitement-trail-onorevworis-move-to-complete-delsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaconversation.com\/?p=2507","title":{"rendered":"Expectations, Excitement Trail Onorevwori&#8217;s Move To Complete DELSU"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <strong>By Patricia Edeki<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After more than two decades of abandonment, members of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka community have expressed relief and renewed hope following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori&#8217;s move to complete the institution&#8217;s Senate and Administrative Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Delta State Government recently invited qualified contractors to submit competitive bids for the completion of the project after revoking the original contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The submission of tenders closed on Thursday, July 23, while the Delta State Tenders Board is expected to open the bids on Tuesday, July 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Senate Building, which was awarded over 20 years ago, was designed as the administrative headquarters of the university by housing executive offices and providing a modern centre for academic leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, funding challenges and contract delays left the project abandoned for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The renewed effort to complete the building gained momentum during DELSU&#8217;s recent convocation ceremony when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Asagba, appealed to the state government for intervention to address the institution&#8217;s infrastructural needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, explained that revoking the previous contract was necessary to pave the way for a competent contractor capable of delivering the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the university community have welcomed the development while calling for transparency and effective supervision of the construction process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A final-year student of the Faculty of Science Precious, described the unfinished structure as a familiar sight on campus, expressing optimism that its completion would significantly transform the Main Campus if delivered within the governor&#8217;s first tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similarly, a senior administrative staff member noted that completing the building would help address the space constraints currently experienced by administrative units operating from different locations within the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planned completion of the Senate Building is expected to improve administrative efficiency and enhance the physical outlook of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the opening of tenders approaching, stakeholders within the DELSU community remain hopeful that the project, which has stood unfinished for 23 years, will finally become a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patricia Edeki After more than two decades of abandonment, members of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka community have expressed relief and renewed hope following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori&#8217;s move to complete the institution&#8217;s Senate and Administrative Building.
