Rising prices of essential commodities are placing increasing financial pressure on students, traders, transport operators and consumers in Abraka, as inflation continues to drive up the cost of food, accommodation, transportation and other basic necessities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rising cost of living has become a major concern in Abraka, where students and residents alike are struggling to cope with increasing prices of goods and services. Many traders say customers now purchase fewer items than they did in previous years, resulting in declining sales and reduced profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation is particularly challenging in the university town, where thousands of students depend on allowances from parents and guardians to meet their daily expenses. The rising cost of accommodation, food and transportation has made it increasingly difficult for many students to maintain their standard of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interviews conducted with residents highlighted the impact of inflation on everyday life. Miss Ijhore Deborah, a 300-level Mass Communication student, said her annual rent increased from \u20a6220,000 to \u20a6300,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My house rent has increased recently. Last year I paid \u20a6220,000, but now the same apartment costs \u20a6300,000. The cost of living in Abraka is not funny at all,”<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A commercial motorcyclist, Mr. Eddy God Is Good, said rising fuel prices have significantly affected his business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The cost of fuel is affecting our business seriously. When I started this work, fuel was \u20a697, but now I spend over \u20a61,350 just to work for a few hours. Things have really changed,”<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 200-level Theatre Arts student, Dominion Obi, also expressed concern over the increasing prices of food items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Even things like noodles and bread have increased. A loaf of bread that was \u20a6200 before is now around \u20a6800 or more,”<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, trader Mrs. Benedicta Adijatu said the rising cost of wholesale goods has affected her business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I used to buy a carton of Indomie for about \u20a67,000, but now the same carton costs over \u20a614,000. It is really affecting my business because customers complain about the prices,”<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings indicate that inflation has significantly reduced consumers’ purchasing power while increasing operating costs for businesses. Students, traders and transport operators continue to adjust their spending habits in response to the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents expressed hope that measures to stabilise prices and improve economic conditions would help ease the financial burden on households and businesses in Abraka.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
