The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Professor Samuel O. Asagba, has identified financial demands, security, power supply, accreditation, staffing, and infrastructure maintenance as some of the major challenges confronting the state-owned institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Asagba also disclosed that the university has improved operational efficiency and reduced examination-related malpractices, including transcript racketeering, through the upgrade of its Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. According to him, DELSU now has more than 1,000 modern computers across its campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Co-Publisher\/Managing Editor reports that the Vice Chancellor made the disclosures on Tuesday, April 28, at the university’s main campus in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, during a media briefing held ahead of the institution’s forthcoming convocation ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting DELSU’s strong national and regional standing, Prof. Asagba noted that the university emerged as the best state university in Nigeria, the best in the South-East and South-South regions, and ranked 12th overall in the country in the 2025 national university rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also announced the establishment of the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Computing, and Allied Health Sciences as part of the university’s strategic efforts to expand its academic programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice Chancellor said the university is aligning with global trends by equipping students with future-ready skills through improved academic facilities and technological advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, a strategic access road within the institution was completed within six weeks, while the construction of a 500-seat lecture theatre and the Faculty of Agriculture complex is progressing steadily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further disclosed that the renovation of lecture halls, laboratories, and administrative offices is at an advanced stage, while the repurposing of the old library into Senate Services is also nearing completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Asagba added that high-speed fibre-optic internet has been installed across the university’s campuses to improve teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on international collaboration, he revealed that DELSU has established partnerships with institutions in South Africa, Canada, China, and the United States as part of efforts to expand its academic frontiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also disclosed plans by the university to develop a modern sports complex to further enhance student development and strengthen sporting activities within the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
