The Delta State University (DELSU) Printing Press at Site I has adjusted its service charges following the rising cost of printing materials and operational expenses, as the facility continues to grapple with challenges including unstable electricity supply and increasing maintenance costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increase affects services such as photocopying, document printing, binding, and other printing-related activities. According to the management, the adjustment was necessitated by the rising prices of essential materials, including paper, ink, and machine maintenance components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workers at the facility said the cost of acquiring printing materials has increased significantly in recent times, making it difficult to maintain previous service rates while ensuring smooth operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An intern at the printing press, who spoke with our correspondent, explained that the cost of production has continued to rise because of the increasing prices of printing supplies and the need for regular maintenance of printing equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The prices of materials we use for daily operations have gone up. Things like paper, ink, and spare parts for machines are now more expensive than before, and this affects the cost of providing our services,” the intern said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the rising cost of materials, the printing press also faces challenges associated with unstable electricity supply, a problem that affects productivity and increases operational expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frequent power outages often slow down printing activities, forcing the facility to rely on alternative sources of electricity to complete jobs. However, the cost of fueling generators has added another financial burden to the operation of the press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation reflects the challenges faced by many printing businesses across Nigeria, where high energy costs, expensive equipment maintenance, and increasing prices of raw materials continue to affect affordability and long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Printing operators nationwide continue to contend with similar economic pressures as they struggle with rising fuel costs, equipment repairs, and the increasing cost of production materials while striving to maintain efficient service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DELSU Printing Press remains an important service centre within the university community, providing printing services for students, staff, academic departments, and other university-related activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholders believe that improved electricity supply, access to modern printing equipment, and greater support for maintenance would help reduce operational challenges and enhance service delivery at the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
