The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a young woman whose death has sparked widespread public outrage.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspect was arrested in mid-July 2026 following a petition filed by the deceased’s family. Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.

The deceased, identified as Favour Agboro, was a young woman from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. Reports describe her as either a nursing student or a nurse associated with Wingate Hospital in the Warri/Okuokoko area.

According to police accounts and information contained in the family’s petition, the victim travelled to Asaba on or about June 1, 2026, after allegedly being invited by Ogbonna through social media. He had reportedly advertised content creation training and monetisation opportunities, including Facebook and TikTok classes, and was said to have offered mentorship and career opportunities.

Police allege that after arriving in Asaba, the victim was lodged in a hotel where she was sexually assaulted by the suspect.

Investigators said the victim later returned home, informed her family about the incident, and recorded a video in which she described her experience and identified the suspect.

According to police, the young woman later ingested a poisonous substance in what authorities are treating as a suicide attempt. She was rushed to a medical facility but subsequently died.

Following the incident, the victim’s family submitted a formal petition to the Delta State Police Command.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

Police operatives subsequently arrested Ogbonna, who remains in custody while investigations continue.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect made what police described as “useful statements” during preliminary interrogation.

The police stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and assured the victim’s family and members of the public that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media purportedly shows the suspect appealing to the victim’s family for an out-of-court settlement. However, the authenticity and context of the video have not been independently verified by authorities.

The case has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for justice while renewing conversations about sexual violence, accountability among social media personalities, and the need for stronger support systems for survivors of sexual assault.
