Asagba, requires every graduating student at both the Abraka and Oleh campuses to attend the sensitisation exercise.

According to the university, the programme is designed to educate students on the NERD policy, which ensures that students’ academic records are properly uploaded and matched with the national education database before graduation and NYSC mobilisation.

The university announced that the sensitisation programme would hold on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the 750A Lecture Theatre, Site III, Abraka Campus, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Students at the Oleh Campus were scheduled to attend their session on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the 1,000-Seater TETFund Hall, Faculty of Engineering, starting at 10:00 a.m. University authorities emphasised that attendance was mandatory for all final-year students.

According to the official notice, the sensitisation programme is intended to familiarise students with the requirements of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank initiative. The policy seeks to ensure that university records correspond with national educational records, thereby preventing delays that could affect graduates during the NYSC mobilisation process.

The management warned that students who fail to comply with the directive may encounter difficulties during their mobilisation after graduation.

The announcement generated interest among students, many of whom described the programme as timely and beneficial. Some final-year students said they had little knowledge of the NERD policy before the university’s notice and welcomed the opportunity to understand the documentation process required for graduation and national service.

Speaking on the development, a final-year student in the Faculty of Science said the sensitisation would help students avoid mistakes that could delay their NYSC mobilisation.

“Many of us only hear about NYSC requirements during our final semester. This programme will help us understand what is expected before graduation,” the student said.

Education experts also commended the initiative, noting that proper record management has become increasingly important in Nigeria’s higher education system. They explained that accurate documentation not only facilitates NYSC mobilisation but also improves the credibility of academic records for employment opportunities and postgraduate studies.

The university advised students to arrive early at their designated venues and pay close attention to the presentations by officials. Management reiterated that compliance with the NERD policy forms part of DELSU’s broader commitment to improving administrative efficiency and ensuring that graduates experience a seamless transition from university to national service.

Delta State University has continued to introduce measures aimed at improving academic administration and student services. University officials believe that initiatives such as the NERD sensitisation programme will reduce administrative delays and strengthen confidence in the institution’s graduation and record management processes.

As preparations for the next batch of graduating students continue, many students have expressed optimism that the sensitisation programme will provide them with the knowledge needed to complete all necessary documentation successfully. Observers also believe that the initiative reflects DELSU’s commitment to supporting its students beyond the classroom and preparing them for life after graduation.

By Gift Osemeke Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has announced a compulsory Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) sensitisation programme for all final-year students as part of measures to ensure a smooth National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process.
