According to her, the programme equips students with practical entrepreneurial skills that can be developed into sustainable businesses after graduation, thereby promoting self-reliance and reducing unemployment.

She also emphasised the importance of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), describing it as a vital component of students’ academic training.

She explained that the programme exposes students to the practical aspects of their fields of study, helping them gain hands-on experience and preparing them for future employment opportunities.

“Students should remain focused, determined, and committed to their studies. The opportunities provided through SIWES, entrepreneurship training, and financial support schemes are designed to prepare them for life after graduation,” Mrs. Enaohwo said.

The university management also appealed to students to make proper use of the opportunities available rather than relying solely on government or family support.

It noted that acquiring practical skills and work experience would enable graduates to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Many students have expressed hope that these initiatives, if effectively implemented, will help address some of the major challenges affecting their academic performance and overall well-being.

Students also called for continued improvements in electricity supply, hostel accommodation, campus transportation, and other welfare services to create a more conducive learning environment.

The welfare initiatives reflect the university’s commitment to enhancing the academic experience of students while equipping them with the skills and support needed to succeed both during and after their university education.

By Victory Okebor Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has announced several measures aimed at improving students’ welfare in response to growing concerns over accommodation, school fees, electricity supply, transportation costs, and the rising cost of living affecting students.
