Students living in off-campus hostels in Abraka have expressed concern over recent increases in house rents by some landlords and caretakers, saying the rising cost of accommodation is placing additional financial pressure on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some students who spoke with this reporter said rents for rooms and self-contained apartments have increased, making it more difficult for many students to secure affordable accommodation close to campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They appealed to landlords and caretakers to consider the financial challenges faced by students and avoid excessive increases in rent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joy, a 200-level Mass Communication student, said the rising cost of accommodation has become a major challenge for students, especially those who depend on limited financial support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe increase in rent is making things difficult for many students. Most of us already struggle with feeding, transportation, and academic expenses, so adding higher accommodation costs makes survival more challenging,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another student, Femu, noted that although the general cost of living has increased, tenants expect improved facilities such as water supply, electricity, drainage systems, and security whenever rent prices are reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, landlords should ensure that increased charges reflect better living conditions for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When contacted, a caretaker\/landlord explained that the increase was due to rising costs of building maintenance, repairs, and other related expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents of the community urged both landlords and tenants to maintain open communication whenever rent reviews are being considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They advised property owners to consider reasonable adjustments, while students called for affordable housing options and improved living conditions in hostels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
